The Minister of Environment and Water, Emil Dimitrov Visited Asarel-Medet JSC

The Minister of Environment and Water, Emil Dimitrov, visited Asarel-Medet JSC on March 2 together with his Deputy Ministers Slaveya Stoyanova and Iliyana Todorova.  They were welcomed by the Chairperson of the company’s  Supervisory Board,  Dimitar Tsotsorkov and its Executive Director,  eng. Delcho Nikolov, who presented the history, operations and results of the company.  The Minister saw the process automation in the mine and the concentrator plant where state-of-the-art mining technologies are operational. He got familiar with the copper cathode production and investments in environmental projects, rehabilitation and water treatment plants.

Dimitar Tsotsorkov told the visitors more about the contribution of the company to the development of Panagyurishte municipality and pointed out the donation of the treasure hall to host the Golden Treasure of Panagyurishte and the elaborated two golden copies of the Thracian masterpiece, the constructed  Arena Asarel sports hall and Uni Hospital Treatment Facility thanks to which Panagyurishte met the pandemic being on the third place in the country with the highest number of physicians per capita.

Eng. Delcho Nikolov stated that Asarel-Medet JSC preserved its stability and growth rates and invested more than 75 million BGN in operations modernization, environmental protection, energy efficiency and staff training in 2020, a year of crisis all over the world. “Totally 1.4 billion BGN were spent in the long-term development programs and only the corporate environmental projects amount to 82 million BGN since the company privatization. The first in the Bulgarian mining industry Cyclic Conveyor System was commissioned in as early as 2000 in whish 61 mln. BGN were invested. This technology has been upgraded and developed throughout the years and another 120 mln. BGN were invested in the new ore and waste haulage projects. Thanks to the latter, the exhaust gas emissions from the mining trucks has been reduced with 40% and a much higher production capacity has been achieved which contributes to the company’s sustainability in case the metal prices shrink. Due to the flotation process modernization, 15% lower electric power consumption has been achieved,” the Executive Director, eng. Nikolov, announced.

“I am greatly impressed by the scale of the environmental investments, the care taken of the environmental protection and people’s health. I wish even much more success to the entire team,” Minister Emil Dimitrov wrote in the Visitor Book in the company exhibition hall and was given a cherry cannon from Panagyurishte as a souvenir.
