IN MEMORIAM of Prof. Eng. LACHEZAR TSOTSORKOV Ph.D.

With a deep regret, we announce that on the 16th of May 2017 Prof. Eng. Lachezar Tsotsorkov Ph.D. – Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Assarel-Medet JSC, honorary chairman of the Bulgarian Chamber of mining and geology, honorary citizen of Panagyurishte and Strelcha passed away.

We were left by the long-time pillar, far-seeing manager and the inspirational leader who had been ahead of Assarel-Medet JSC since 1986 until now. We were left by a reputable Bulgarian and a patriotic person of Panagyurishte, who infinitely cherished his homeland. We were left by a person with a huge, dedicated and generous heart. He believed that the meaning of human life is to make the world a better place after ourselves and invariably proved it with his life example and good deeds that will long live.

In this hard moment of farewell, the management and the team of Assarel-Medet JSC extend their most sincere condolences and they grieve together with the inconsolable family, relatives, friends and all who loved and respected Prof. Eng. Lachezar Tsotsorkov Ph.D.!

He will long live in the memory of the generations



and he will live forever in our hearts!

The worship will be held on the 19 May 2017 (Friday) from 9:00 to 13:00 in Arena Assarel Hall in the town of Panagyurishte, as the official ritual will be at 10:00 am.

The funeral in the Cemetery – Panagyurishte will be for the closest family members.

On the 16 of May 2017 Prof. Eng. Lachezar Tsotsorkov Ph.D. passed away – the honorary citizen of Panagyurishte and Strelcha.

He was the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Assarel-Medet JSC - the largest and fundamental company in the municipality of Panagyurishte and the district of Pazardzhik. He had been awarded with the highest insignia of honour – Stara Planina-First Grade Medal, as well as Manager of the Year 2009 Prize. He was a donator of numerous significant projects and charity causes in the municipality and the country. As a Maecenas of culture many times he had been honored with the Golden Century Prize by the Ministry of Culture.

He had been ahead of Assarel-Medet for more than 30 years.

In 1986 he took the position of a General Director of Assarel-Medet Technological Mining and Processing Complex. His personal initiative, professionalism, organizational skills and dedication in work were crucial for the successful building and commissioning of the new capacities of the Assarel Mine and Concentrator on the 6th of December 1989.

In 1999 Prof. Eng. Lachezar Tsotsorkov Ph.D. became an Executive Director and a member of the Board of Directors of Assarel-Medet JSC, and since July 2014 he had been a Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the company. Under his management the company had been successfully restructured and modernized, applying the best European and world practices in technologies, environment and corporate social responsibility.

In 1991 Lachezar Tsotsotkov was among the founders of the Bulgarian Chamber of Mining and Geology and he had been re-elected for its chairman. After the expiration of his second mandate, on the 27th of April 2017, he was elected as the first Honorary Chairman of the Bulgarian Chamber of Mining and Geology. He had an active participation and contribution to the sustainable development of mining industry and setting the foundations of a contemporary model of a social dialogue with the mining unions, contributed to the preservation of the social peace in hard for the country years.

Since 1992 until 2012 Prof. Tsotsorkov had been a member of the Managing Council of the Bulgarian Industrial Association and since 2012 he had participated in the Consulting Council of the Confederation of the employers and industrialists in Bulgaria. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Club. Actively involved in supporting and developing of community center work, sport and tourism in the municipality Panagyurishte.

He was among the constitutors and the first chairman of the Srednogorie Med Industrial Cluster - town of Pirdop, and the Alliance of Entrepreneurs - town of Panagyurishte. Since 2000, he had been a member of Rotary Club - Panagyurishte. Prof. Tsotsorkov was the initiator for the establishment in 2010 of Reform Union Club and was elected for its first chairman.

Prof. Eng. Lachezar Tsotsorkov Ph.D. was a member of the International Organizing Committee of the World Mining Congress - Warsaw. He was an actual member of three International Academies in the field of the mining and mineral resources. He had been participating in the Management Councils of the Scientific and Technical Union in Mining, Geology and Metallurgy and the Bulgarian National Mining Committee since 1994.He published a book on company management and defended a doctoral thesis on topic Foundations of Corporate Culture in Mining and Processing Complexes to the Higher Attestation Committee in 2000.

Since 2014 he had been an honorary professor of the University of Mining and Geology St. Ivan Rilski. He had been lecturing corporate management to the students of the University of Mining and Geology St. Ivan Rilski and New Bulgarian University.

Married, with two children.
